Lisa Starkey, owner of PDC The Boutique, displays some of the shop's merchandise. PDC The Boutique is this week's featured business for the Downtown Lodi Business Partnership's "Shop Sunday" campaign. PDC The Boutique is open from noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays. It is located inside Woolworth Plaza on School Street. The boutique carries bath and body items, called Tokyo Milk, along with their unique brands Lollia, Kai and Archipelago. Below are some pics of my little cottage house on the outside. I spent 6 hours on Sunday pulling weeds, prunning, planting and watering. I love flowers and color however due to having so many large Oak Trees on my property, nothing will survive for too long. This was something I learned after trying for over 3 years and a whole lot of beautiful flowers & cash went bye-bye!

So I went to Lowes on a whim and they explained to me that if a plant dies, within 1 year of purchasing, you can either get your money back or exchange for another plant. Volia!!! I'm back in business, without my money going "out the window."

Sunday's are "Nephew" days as well as clean up days. I didn't have the heart to move them for the pic. :) So here is my living room, too hot today to open the curtains. But like I mentioned before, by selecting a large couch to fill the entire space and keeping the colors light, I was able to give the feeling of a open large space.

Warning: pics are so out of sequence. Ok so here is Nigel. Nigel loves to ruin all of Mommies expensive pillows.

Media Center, that I mentioned in last blog. To the right I have stacked a few treasures I found in London. The top plaque is handmade and represents our family crests, the bottom yellow & gold plate is from The Buckingham Palace. The set is used by the Queen herself and I scored #120 of only 500 sold. Yay! In between and behind are books with famous sayings, A Gucci catalog, lol, a book of The Windsor Castle (that's the name of it!!!) and other inspiration pieces.

Like I promised, here are clearer pics of my previous attempt. Please note, my husband made the bed today in this guest room. Teehee.

This is a "hot" new way to showcase your books...I love books!! Collecting books can be pricey at times, most of these books in this pic were less than a dollar each at a thrift shop. (how many times can I mention the word "books" in two sentences) :)

This console is located in my living room. Again, it's best to show your personality here and there. I have my wedding photo (shot in my backyard) surrounded by the Rat Pack. Below there is another black and white photo of the Godfather. :) Photos bought at a local fundraiser in Lodi, CA

The start of PDC design tips...

Here are just 4 quick pics of my house (taken from my blackberry so not the best clarity) but a great start! Here is a pic below of one of my favorite things about my house...the custom stairwell. In the living room, I had an issue with not having the right space to put a media center so I made the random cubbie space the place! By painting it a dark color (chocolate) and matching my massive buffet (converted to a media center) I was able to make it look as if it were built for the TV and not the other way around. It's the same concept of wearing the dress and not letting it wear you!

The other side of the room (remember my "issue") was that I did not want to cover my beautiful cobblestone fireplace. So I had my couch custom made by having them remove the back of it just so, ahhhh, now you can see it. The room was narrow, so to fix this I did a few things. I one, added a sectional purposely that large to fill the space entirely. I opted for a monochromatic look so I painted the walls a white (satin finish) a bright white on woodwork (high gloss). By mixing paint finishes you can create subtle texture throughout the room. My couch, fabrics are a creme color to ad to the openess I was going for. The focus was enhancing the structure of my house.

Below is one of my guest bedrooms, my favorite so far because it was a "mosh posh." What I mean by that is I mixed everything from Ikea, Target, Ralph Lauren, Ross, PDC The Boutique, Anthropologie, Potterybarn, antiques, vintage! By using most of what I already had, it only ended up costing me $500.00 to design.

My July 10th Lollia/PDC Party was a major success! Thank you to all of you who where able to attend, you rock!!! For those who missed it, I will be throwing another one in November so be sure to sign up. The drinks were flowing, the food was yummy and the dresses, Lollia and jewelry were flying off the shelves! The only thing I'm sorry for is the fact that we were "PDC packed in"...whew! New merchandise from Kai Fragrance, antiques from Paris, France, jewelry from Florence, Italy and and much more!

I just got back from the Festa Della Donna and oh was it amazing, beautiful and full of wonderful people! PDC The Boutique was one of the many wonderful vendors that participated today. Below is the written article, what a wonderful cause!

The Vaccarezza Murdaca Family Foundation hosted the Festa della Donna fundraiser on May 13 at the Viaggio Estate Winery.More than 200 people attended the event, which was held to raise funds for Lodi House and the Salvation Army's Hope Harbor Shelter. Chefs from Stockton, who have cooked in Italy, worked with the Hope Harbor Shelter's culinary graduates to prepare the food. A silent auction was held and 30 raffle prizes were given. Those who attended also had the opportunity to view 36 tables that were each uniquely decorated by 36 individuals.Nancy Shock, one of the event coordinators, said the event raised over $70,000."In this time of recession, it was a grassroots effort that we were able to come up with that kind of profit," she said.

Ok so! It all started with the Angelina Jolie Cover above, in which W allowed Brad Pitt to photograph Angelina with kids and give us a private look into their lives though his eyes. It was beautiful. However, not everyone felt the same way (understandable, can't please everyone) but it was the backlash of a "Readers React" writer who claimed that showing a photo of Angelina breast feeding was pretty much offensive to her and other women so she threw the magazine in the trash. I felt provoked but it wasn't until every issue after that was pretty much the same way of thinking and that is not the type of "movement" that I care to see us "going down", if you will. It became this strange Celebrity vs. Models vs. Subscriber "beef" which was leading everyone off the point.

So long story short, I wrote into Readers React (I've never done this and often thought "who has the time") but it goes to show that your voice needs to be heard regardless of it's in a fashion publication or not. I wanted readers to see that currently in the real world many Americans are suffering from our economic downfall so who really gives a S*%@ about cover choices. Efforts should rather be put towards community recovery or even world recovery! Aside from that, it's just kinda cool! Lol! :) Here is what I wrote:

Cover Drama

Regardless of whether a celebrity or a model is on the cover of W, the magazine has never failed to promote high fashion and art. Readers who throw a tantrum over cover choices baffle me-yet such discussions have themselves become an art form in the pages of Readers React. Fellow readers, open your eyes and realize that there are worse things going on in life than having a celebrity on a magazine's cover!

Well, I'm back from an amazing trip to London. We couldn't of picked a better week to arrive since we just missed the storm, therfore had beautiful but still chilly weather. Also missed the G 20 Summit that is taking place now which is rumored to have major riots...safe travels Barrack! Whew! Anyway I thought I would share a few pics of my trip so you can get the "flavor" of England. This is a pic of me at Nottinghill were I found curiously beautiful silver rings for PDC, above is a typical London car, Wicked the broadway hit which was "out of this world", The Waldorf lobby (our home...hey Luca, Robert wants to know if you want to have breakfast) LOL :) The Somerset House was a very magical evening...one of my favorite memories. Muah, miss you Somerset! We topped the trip off with a shopping excursion at Old Bond St. and took a train to the Windsor Castle. Everyone must see that castle...incredible! There is so many wonderful memories it wouldn't be the same if I just wrote about it, so if you are planning a trip there, come in and I'll give you our top 15 London travel tips, you'll be grateful I did. :) See you soon and don't forget to come and see my London merchandise...limited qauntities.

Yes it's true, I have a "secret stash" of pretties. The Corsett below with the painting on it is one thing in this section that is "secretly stashed" shhhhhh, don't tell hubby. :)

At PDC The Boutique in Downtown Lodi, owner Lisa Starkey-Laber has filled her store with pure artists' work. There are collages, paintings of skewed people, hand-sewn sock puppets, locally made pinwheels and mixed media by emerging artists from around the world. Also an interior designer, Starkey-Laber says the concept of mixed media has been around for a long time, but it's just now becoming cool.
